Systematic Investigation of Silicon Content Effects on the PEO Coatings’ Properties on Al–Si Binary Alloys in Silicate-Based and Tungstate-Containing Electrolytes

The present study evaluates the effect of a substrate’s silicon content on coatings’ morphology, structure, and properties in an electrolyte containing sodium tungstate Al–xSi alloys. PEO-coated samples demonstrated structure pancake crater with irregular micro-cracks micro-pores. incorporation element W coatings decreased surface roughness porosity due to increasing conductivity and, hence, decreasing breakdown voltage intensity micro-discharges. friction coefficient all stayed constant during wear test contact ball inner layer less higher micro-hardness. track depth thickness ratio was found be 0.60–0.75 for those without additive 0.55–0.65 coatings.
